Hyundai Merchant Marine will form the HMM + K2 consortium with fellow HA-Line and Sinokor

 Hyundai Merchant Marine Jan, 3rd, 2017 – The South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), who recently signed a cooperation agreement with Maersk Line and MSC, the first two of the world’s leading companies in the container shipping sector, which could lead to agreement in three years in adherence the Asian carrier alliance 2M consists of the Danish company and the Swiss today signed a memorandum of understanding with fellow Heung-a Shipping (HA-Line) and Sinokor Merchant Marine with the aim of setting up the consortium HMM + K2.

The purpose of the consortium includes routes with Japan and China and the South-East Asia and South-West, and particularly the traffic between Korea and Japan, Korea and China and other services in the region. The cooperation will be implemented through joint management of ships, the exchange and the purchase of slot and joint investments in port infrastructure and purchase of equipment for the container transport.

The agreement provides that next month will be entered into a formal contract with the aim of launching the activities of the consortium next March.

Currently, according to Alphaliner, the container fleet of HMMs, which consists of 66 vessels, it has a capacity equal to 456mila TEU, while that of Sinokor is formed by 42 ships of the overall load capacity of 49 thousand teu and that of the HA- line consists of 35 vessels with a total capacity of 39 thousand TEUs. If the container of Sinokor and HA-Line are used mainly on routes linking the ports of Korea, Japan, China, Russia, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, those of HMM, as well as in these regions, are also used on other main of world traffic routes.
